B.A., cum laude, ST. NORBERT COLLEGE, De Pere, 1974. Also attended the
UNIVERSITY OF IOWA.
1981-1987. Reporter, columnist, feature writer for the GREEN BAY
NEWS-CHRONICLE, Associate Editor of NEWMONTH MAGAZINE, regional
correspondent for the CHICAGO TRIBUNE and the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL.
Moved to Puerto Rico and built a house in the hills near San Juan.
1991, 1992. General Manager of LA CASA DEL LIBRO, museum of rare books in
Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
1992. Wire editor on the English Language desk at ASSOCIATED PRESS, San Juan.
1992-1997. Supplements editor of CARIBBEAN BUSINESS, Santurce, Puerto Rico.
Ran the newspaper's reporter training program.
Worked with author Jack Delano on his autobiographical book, Photographic
Memories, published by the Smithsonian Institution Press in 1997.
1997-1999. Speechwriter and Deputy Assistant/Press Specialist for Puerto
Rico's Office of the Governor.
Career synopsis: From teaching to speechwriting, Mary's career followed language. She was fluent in English and Spanish and had a true love of both languages.
